Railhead Sourcing Policy
“Our priority is to build on the unique success and influence of British railway design with products that reflect that tradition.”
Every Railhead idea starts life with our team in the UK. Our aspiration is to create and make as much as we can in the UK, or source from countries which share our heritage of rail history.
We will only say something is made in the UK if it genuinely reflects the key stages of manufacture being in the UK. It may be legal to put a ‘Made in the UK’ or ‘Made in Britain’ label on products that actually rely heavily on materials and components from elsewhere, but that’s not what our customers expect, so we don’t do it.
If you buy online, final production and fulfilment will likely also take place in the UK or the country in which you placed your order. The processes in between are likely to be in the Americas, the EU, or India.
This sometimes means our prices are more expensive: we will choose a higher cost for a premium product that matches our policy over a cheaper option that could come from anywhere.
That said, we’re at an early stage in building our business, so we’re still establishing our suppliers and using fulfilment partners (we don’t yet have the facilities to store and ship everything ourselves). Some essential components and materials simply can’t be sourced at the moment from our preferred countries, though we try as hard as possible.
We can all benefit from a modern world in which it’s possible to combine parts and materials from many countries to make something the best it can be. However, our priority is to build on the unique success and influence of British railway design with products that reflect that tradition.
